10 November, 2021 by Ana
The season to be jolly is just around the corner, and we’re still talking about barbecues and smoked foods. And we’ll keep on doing this because BBQs, family gatherings, and outside events are for the whole year!
Main dishes are always in the spotlight, no matter the celebration. Well, today, we want to give you a glimpse into our world of favorite smoked SIDE dishes. Is your mouth watering already? Continue reading and find out what you’d be having as a side dish if you joined our next BBQ party.
Smoky Baked Beans
Whether French fried, baked, or in other forms, we love potatoes as a side dish at backyard fiestas, birthday parties, or other types of events. But we can’t deny the fact that many times we’d happily switch to baked beans. And we do, when WE’re throwing the party.
For a memorable smoky baked beans dish, you need drained and rinsed can navy beans. Soak them overnight before draining and simmering for about 40 mins, until tender. You’ll also need diced bacon strips, crushed garlic, diced sweet onion, soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, freshly ground black pepper, mustard, ketchup, brown sugar, and molasses.
Begin with setting up the smoker to 275F° and preheating a skillet to medium heat on your stovetop. Add the bacon to the skillet and, when it starts to brown, throw in the onion and garlic, stirring to coat in the rendered fat.
When the onions have softened, remove from the heat, and add the rest of the ingredients, stirring to combine. Then, put the skillet on the smoker and cook for about two hours. Oh, what a delicacy…Better served while warm!
Chantilly Potatoes
Ok, if a BBQ party without potatoes is not your cup of tea, we’ll surprise you with some delicious Smoked Chantilly Potatoes.
This is not only a simple dish but one that everybody will love, even the little ones. You’ll only need the potatoes, salt, pepper, shredded cheese, heavy cream, butter, and a baking dish with foil.
Begin with firing up the smoker to 225° F before you layer sliced potatoes in a baking dish with foil. Grab the salt, pepper, and shredded cheese, sprinkle the first layer of potatoes, and add two more layers. Pour butter and heavy cream over the potatoes before sealing off the foil and putting the baking dish on the smoker’s grates. In about 4 hours, you’ll have a mouthwatering side dish!
Smoked Mac And Cheese
If you’re planning a lazy Sunday with the family, surprising them with a perfectly gooey yet crunchy on the outside Mac and Cheese as a side dish will get you some extra points. And, if it’s topped with crushed pork crackling, you’ll amaze everybody’s taste buds.
Make sure your shopping list contains pasta macaroni style, shredded Cheddar and Colby cheese, cream cheese, diced and fried bacon, butter, full-fat milk, crushed pork cracklings, and BBQ rub.
Begin with getting your BBQ up to a temp of 300°F to 320°F. Then, grab a tray with high sides and add everything to it, except the pork cracklings.
Put the tray into the smoker for an hour, stirring the Mac and cheese after 30 minutes for the first time. After 60 minutes, stir again and sprinkle more rub over it before covering with pork crackle and returning it to the smoker for 30 more minutes. Whether you serve this delicacy on its own or with your favorite BBQ meats, it will be a delightful culinary experience!
Roasted Brussels Sprouts with Fennel and Prosciutto
We get it! Brussels Sprouts doesn’t sound too fancy or appealing, especially for the little ones. Mixed with fresh fennel and prosciutto, however, they’re so delicious your guests won’t be able to stop eating.
You’ll only need Brussels sprouts, olive oil, pepper, balsamic vinegar, salt, slices of prosciutto, and fennel.
Trim your Brussels sprouts before putting them in a freezer bag. Add olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt, and pepper. Then seal the bag, and shake it up.
Prepare your smoker and place a vegetable grilling basket on it for a couple of minutes to preheat. Add Brussels sprouts to the basket and let them cook until they’re lightly charred. Add slices of prosciutto and the fennel to the sprouts and cook for about five more minutes. Bon Appetit!
And, If You Don’t Have a Smoker…
We advise you to enhance the utility of your outdoor kitchen and get one. Every grill master needs a good smoker. And, luckily, there is no need for huge investment to get a premium tool.
