Is Your Garden Ready for Spring? Let's Do the Last Checks!
25 February, 2022 by Ana
Winter is almost over, and it’s time for you to forget about all those lazy afternoons enjoying warm drinks and sharing memorable memories around the fire pit because spring brings sun, warmth, and a lot of work for garden enthusiasts.
But, before you start the hard work around the backyard, you better make sure your garden is ready for spring. Did you take care of the pests around your green oasis? Are your tools working well? Did you start sowing seeds? If you want to know more about what your garden needs to be ready for the planting months, use this short checklist and make sure you welcome the new season as a well-prepared garden owner.
Take Care of the Garden Pests
If you didn’t hunt down the hibernating pests until now, we advise you to do it before spring and summer arrive. You will save yourself a lot of trouble! What should you be looking for? Well, anything that can harm your plants, such as snails, slugs, and aphid colonies. Also, you can check for white-vine-weevil larvae, known for living in the compost and being very fond of feeding on plant roots. So, make sure you destroy any larvae that could harm your lovely garden.
Check the Tools, Again!
I know we’ve mentioned that winter is a good season to check, clean, repair, or replace your gardening tools, but these are mandatory actions if you want to preserve them properly and save money in the long run. Not to mention that, if all your tools are in order, you can start working right away in spring, instead of worrying that your water sprinkler, for instance, is not working. However, if this happens, you can always replace it with the high-quality and friendly-priced Carpathen Garden Sprinkler. Such a great way to make lawn watering less of a chore! Just get your lawn watering sprinkler and install it in 3 easy steps before allowing it to do its magic and give your yard a maximum and even water coverage.
Are You Sowing Seeds?
There are no better months to start sowing plant seeds that need a longer growing season than January and February. Whether you want to plant begonias, peppers, or aubergines, for instance, you must start them in a heated propagator or something similar if you want to ensure good growth. Before beginning sowing, make a list of the seeds you want to grow this winter, checking if your soil and local weather conditions are proper for the plants you desire. And, if you’re a newbie, learn how to sow the seeds first. It will be fun!
How About Your Composting Area?
If you don’t have a composting area, we suggest you consider setting one up in your garden, and this is a great moment to begin! Whether you want to build your own space using spare wood, or you prefer buying a compost bin from a store, a composting area will provide you with the space you need for your organic waste, which, once broken down, transforms into a rich fertilizer your plants will absolutely love. To end up with great plant food, make sure you mix veggie peelings, paper, grass clippings, and woody prunings.
Start Planting Your Favorite Fruits and Veggies
There are plenty of fruits and veggies that germinate best in cool soil, so you can get ready to start planting as soon as spring arrives and the ground has thawed. These goodies should be ready to harvest by early summer and, if you are out of ideas, we have some favorite veggies and a list of great fruits you can plant this spring.
