The winter celebrations are almost here, and we are all jolly and excited. Colorful decorations, warm lights, fun gift-wrapping sessions are some of the things that keep people busy these days. But, the closer we get to Christmas, the more we should think about the menu.
For many, Christmas dinner is one of the most important meals of the year and, while some prefer enjoying the traditional foods they are used to, we believe there is always space for new ideas and recipes. So, today, we’re sharing our favorite festive main dishes with you. Continue reading and find out what we’d put on the table this Christmas.
Pork Belly Roast
If you’re not one of those who believe barbecues are only for summers, prepare your appliances because this pork belly recipe will be the star of the party. With few simple ingredients and the perfect cooking temperature, this main dish is going to amaze your family and guests with its savor and soft texture.
You will only need salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic and mustard powder, and, of course, pork belly. Using a sharp knife in a diamond pattern, begin scoring the pork belly and place it on a cutting board, skin down. Now you can start rubbing the belly, except the skin, with the ingredients mixed together. Afterwards, rub the skin with salt to help form a good, delicious crackling. Yummy!
With the belly ready, turn on the barbecue, and when it reaches approx. 250°C, place the pork roast over indirect heat. After about 30 minutes, turn the temperature down to 180°C and continue cooking for 30 more minutes. Let it rest for about 10 minutes before you cut it. Bon Appetit!
Smoked Lobster Tails
If you want to offer your guests a fancy dinner and serve something adventurous, you will not go wrong with these exquisite smoked lobster tails. The best part about this dish is that it is fancy but super easy to make, with few healthy ingredients. Its spectacular flavors come from the savory garlic butter and being cooked low and slow on the smoker. So, if you want to have a unique culinary experience like this, you need to upgrade your grill. The Z-Smoker Pellet Tube is an outstanding option. High-quality, fair-priced, fast to install, and very easy to use, this smoke generator makes the smoking process easy and accessible to anyone.
Now, going back to our recipe, you will need lobster tails, butter, minced garlic, lemon juice, and black pepper. Begin with the lobster, cutting the tails along the top of the shell to the tip. Then, pull the shell apart and partially expose the meat. Rinse them and let them dry and rest while you start your smoker and prepare the butter mix. Over medium heat, using a small saucepan, melt the butter mixed with garlic, lemon juice, and black pepper. When ready, let it cool.
The next step is to insert the skewers into the tails and place them on the smoker grates, slit side up. Cook for 20 minutes and apply the butter to the meat through the tail slit. Cook for 25 more minutes until they reach 62°C. We recommend using a meat probe/thermometer.
Serve this delicacy immediately!
Roasted Seasonal Veggies
If some of your guests are vegetarians, you can’t serve them pork or lobster, can you? They will appreciate your cooking skills, but being hungry at the Christmas dinner is not fun, so making a scrumptious veggie dish is the only way. And this roasted seasonal vegetable recipe is so good that it will amaze even meat lovers. You will need parsnips, red onions, celeriac, beetroots, carrots, fresh thyme, sesame seeds, olive oil, honey, and, of course, salt and pepper.
Start with peeling the veggies. If this sounds too boring, you can always invite the whole fam to participate. Making Christmas dinner together while sharing laughs and hot drinks is always a good idea!
The next step is to peel the vegetable into thin sticks, except the onion, which you can cut into eighths lengthways. Then, mix the rest of the ingredients together and add them to the veggies, combining them in a bowl. Time to add the vegetables to a grilling basket and roast for about 40 minutes over indirect heat. Oh, what a colorful and flavorful delight!
