Keep Your Eyes on “Your Green Prize”
We already shared our thoughts on how to enjoy the backyard in winter, especially during the festivities. But besides relaxing and indulging in grilled delicacies, make sure you check its condition regularly. When the weather is dry, for instance, inspect your garden during a relaxing walk. If the lawn feels spongy and soft, it might happen because of moss or thatch, which you should treat when Spring arrives. This needs removing to allow the soil condition to improve and promote the growing of grass.
In addition, check if you usually have weeds growing because these can smother the grass and feed with much of the moisture and nutrients. Just like in the case of moss, weeds also need treatment starting with April. And, when the time comes, we advise you to use a selective weedkiller to avoid killing off your grass as well.
You can also start looking into different products available and find the best one for your needs. This way, in Spring, you’ll have not only your tools ready but also all the products needed to care for your garden.
Start Making the Gardening Plan
In March, warm weather will begin. But, though very tempting, it’s not yet time for gardening and applying products. The weather is too unpredictable, and cold might be back, stopping your lawn from growing and washing away any applied products.
Also, don’t begin sowing seeds because the soil is not warm enough to germinate quickly and there is still a risk of frosts. So, stay still until April, but start planning. Decide on whether you want
a veggie garden or fruits are your cup of tea. Think about the flowers you want to grow, and plan how you want your garden to look. Prepare everything and when April knocks on your door, get the party started!
